Youth Leadership at Camp Ten Trees

Our organization is committed to making space for youth leadership, both within
our summer camp program and throughout the organization as a whole.  After all,
our campers aren't just the next generation -- they are here now and have the
vision and enthusiasm to help create loving and engaging youth camp environments
that reflect their own interests, needs, and goals.

Youth Involvement in Summer Camp Program Development
Past, current, and potential campers interested in sharing feed back on past camp sessions or ideas
for next summer's camp sessions should contact our Summer Camp Director.  June 2010 saw our
first-ever Brainfest, a gathering of children, youth, and volunteers sharing their ideas for the 2010
summer camp sessions.  Throughout September, our 2010 Summer Camp Director (Kerb/"Prairie Dog")
asks that young people interested contributing their ideas to the development of future summer camp
sessions contact our Summer Camp Director!

Youth Involvement on an Organizational Level
What are other ways for youth to get involved with leading Camp Ten Trees?  Even though the Camp
Ten Trees summer camp sessions have been around since 2001, we've only been our very own non-
profit organization since late 2008.  As we develop our infrastructure, governance, and year-round
presence, youth voices are needed in the  mix!  In May 2010, we invited youth to a meeting to discuss
ways in which they might want to go about ensuring their institutional impact on the organization?
Would youth be interested in participating at a board of directors level?  How about other year-round
volunteer opportunities for youth?  Would a youth advisory group be fun and impactful?  The youth
who gathered in May 2010 kicked off the effort of ensuring youth involvement on an institutional level.
This group of youth (ages 13-7) and their young adult allies (ages 18-22) is called Team Pegasus!  If
you are 13-22 years old and interested in being part of Team Pegasus, contact Airen to get involved
in this youth-led, adult-ally-supported effort.  Currently, the plan is for Team Pegasus to begin meeting
one a month, beginning again in October of 2010!
